Love Assembly - Love is not jealous - Valentines day

This is a 3 page pdf plan and a 15 slide PowerPoint presentation for an assembly on love, with a focus on part of a Bible quote. In this assembly, children are encouraged to think about how love should not be jealous . The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! You can use the plan on its own or alongside the PowerPoint (This is non-editable. Click ‘Read Only’ to open the PowerPoint). I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. So this assembly involves using volunteers on the spot to act out a school scenario about jealousy. There is a lot of opportunity for all children to think about their own experiences of jealousy and love and to feed back. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with.

This is a 3 page plan and a 14 slide PowerPoint presentation for an assembly on love. In this assembly, children are encouraged to think about love being patient. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! You can use the plan on its own or alongside the PowerPoint. (This is not editable. Click ‘Read Only’ to open the PowerPoint.) I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. So this assembly involves a long anecdote on a childhood incident where the assembly leader is impatient. You can use the example in the plan or use an anecdote from your own childhood. There is a lot of opportunity for children to think about their own experiences of patience and love and to feedback. The assembly includes a quote from the bible and an example prayer/reflection to finish with.

This resource is a scheme of work for a 7 week history unit aimed at Key Stage 2. The theme for the unit is women's rights, with a focus on Elizabeth Garrett-Anderson, the first female doctor and Emmeline Pankhurst, the suffragette. The scheme includes an introduction, curriculum aims, a unit overview and 7 detailed lesson plans. Each plan has an objective, lesson introduction, main activity and plenary. There are also details about possible differentiation, questions for assessment and key vocabulary for each lesson. Also included are 3 PowerPoint presentations on women's history pre-20th century, Elizabeth Garrett-Anderson and Emmeline Pankhurst. The unit could be used at any time in Key Stage 2 in order to cover the curriculum aim of studying a British theme post 1066.

Painting Skills - 4 week plan (key stage 2)

This resource is a set of 4 lessons designed to teach painting skills to Lower Key Stage 2, though it could be used for KS1 too. The key skills that are taught include mixing colours to create secondary colours, creating different tones and shades and using shapes and patterns to change the tone of a painting. There are 3 different artists used as inspiration - Mondrian, who uses blocks of colour, Monet, who uses lots of tones and shades and Rembrandt, whose painting of Jesus calming the storm is used to inspire the children’s final pieces of work. The children have the opportunity to work alone and as part of a large group to create a collaborative piece of art on gigantic wallpaper. This was great fun! I have included the powerpoint I used for the series of lessons. There are 3 slides on the first two artists and a slide with Rembrandt’s picture. I have used these plans on several occasions so they are tried and tested!

Geography - United Kingdom - 11 day Literacy Plan

This is a plan for KS1 Literacy that I used when we were learning about Britain and Ireland. There are 11 lessons in the Learning Journey that lead towards the children making their own leaflets. The children examine a range of leaflets about the local area so that they develop their awareness of what a leaflet actually is. They then experience different types of information text about the British Isles, with each mixed ability group focussing on a different country or city. Three days are reserved for the children to actually make their own leaflets. We invited year 5 to visit at the end of the topic to read our leaflets and vote about which country they would visit. The children loved that part! The children worked in mixed ability groups and each group at some point had the opportunity to work in the role play corner, where they have to do some independent writing.
